The project involves widening the Avenue des Belges to include a pedestrian and cycle path and a 5.0 m-high belvedere in PUY-EN-VELAY (43). M3S® honeycomb geotextiles were used to support the earth and roads.
The structure was backfilled with 0/20 gravel. It rests on a former area of buildings demolished at the start of the project. The very low load-bearing capacity and frost-free conditions meant that it was not possible to install an expensive reinforced concrete support structure.
On the front face, a stone masonry facing rests on a sill made at the foot of the structure and does not take up any earth pressure (the latter being supported by the M3S® retaining structure).
