Penetrometric studies in Laos
PANDA® penetrometric testing
Project owner : Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC)
Project manager : EDF CIH
NTPC commissioned us to carry out penetrometric tests in an earth dam at the Nam Theun hydroelectric plant in Laos.
In 9 days, 82 PANDA® penetrometric tests were carried out at an average depth of 7 metres in a sandy-clay soil, using a regular, tight grid of 3 lines spaced 2 metres apart (see photo).
The data collected was used to draw resistance profiles revealing the structure’s compactness map. The client was provided with 2D and 3D models.
This mission demonstrated our ability to carry out investigations in a faraway country using lightweight equipment adapted to local constraints.
